# TableStudio > TableStudio is a native Mac database client, and an agent plugin that gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode safe access to the same databases. Reads are read-only, production only changes through the user's review, every AI change can be undone, and every agent call is recorded on the Mac. It works with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server, ClickHouse, CockroachDB and Cloudflare D1. Key facts: - Platform: macOS 15 Sequoia or later, Apple Silicon or Intel. There is no Windows or Linux version. - Price: a free 7-day trial with every feature (no credit card, no account), then $49 once for a Lifetime license. No subscription. - The agent plugin is free and its source is on GitHub. It needs TableStudio running on the Mac. - Install the app and the plugin from the terminal: `curl -fsSL https://tablestudio.sh/install | bash` - No cloud relay: agents talk to TableStudio on localhost, and TableStudio talks to the database directly. ## Agent plugin - Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode get the TableStudio plugin, which TableStudio sets up the first time it opens. - Claude Desktop, VS Code, Windsurf, Zed, Gemini CLI, Raycast and any other MCP client can connect to TableStudio's MCP server directly. - Over 55 MCP tools on every connected database: read the whole schema in one call, run queries, dry-run a write against the real rows, try a migration on a throwaway sandbox, run health and schema checks, and find the indexes a slow query needs. - 78 query rules (20 of them catch queries that return wrong rows, not just slow ones), 96 health checks and 67 schema checks, each schema fix with its rollback SQL. - Agents reach saved connections by name. Passwords stay in the macOS Keychain and no token sits in a config file. ## Safety rules TableStudio enforces these itself, whatever the agent, its prompt or its auto-approve setting does: - Reads run in a read-only transaction or session with a 30-second limit. - Production, and any remote database not tagged development or staging, only takes changes through the user's review. - A data change on a remote Postgres database needs a dry run first, and rolls back if the real row count doesn't match it. - Functions with side effects are refused: pg_terminate_backend, dblink, HTTP calls, server files, INTO OUTFILE. - Access is set per database: Off, Structure only, Read, or Read & write. Structure only never returns a row value; Off hides the database. - The plugin's shell guard stops psql, mysql and 17 migration and seed tools (Prisma, Drizzle, Rails, Flyway and others) from writing to production from the terminal. - An agent can't raise its own access: tagging production as development or turning off read-only becomes a request the user allows with Touch ID. - Values read from the database come back labelled as untrusted data, kept apart from TableStudio's own guidance. ## Undo and the Agent Center - Before an agent changes a row, TableStudio saves the rows it's about to touch, including foreign-key cascades, on every engine. One change can be undone without restoring the whole database. Schema changes save the schema first. - An undo is dry-run before it runs; a row someone changed since is skipped and listed, never overwritten. - The Agent Center shows every conversation from every agent: each call, what it read, dry-ran, proposed and changed, and what TableStudio stopped and why. The record stays in TableStudio's files on the Mac for 30 days. ## The app - Browse and edit tables, and write SQL with schema-aware autocomplete. - ⌘K command palette for every action: switch connections, run queries, jump to tables, open migrations, compare schemas. - AI chat with the model you choose: ChatGPT or GitHub Copilot sign-in, API keys for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, OpenRouter, Mistral and others, local models through Ollama, LM Studio or llama.cpp, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. - Index suggestions from real query patterns. Index Advisor (the fewest indexes covering the most database time) and hiding an index to test dropping it are PostgreSQL-only. - ER diagrams, schema compare with a migration script for the target's engine, and a watcher for Drizzle and Prisma migrations folders. - Local servers: start and stop Postgres, MySQL, ClickHouse and CockroachDB on the Mac. Servers set up by Homebrew or Postgres.app are picked up with their data untouched. - Sandboxes: a throwaway local copy of any database in one step, with its real rows or none. - Move databases between hosts and engines (for example cloud to Mac, or Postgres to MySQL) with a pre-flight report, and sync rows between two databases. - Backups in each engine's own format to the Mac or any S3 bucket, and restore points before risky changes. D1 and ClickHouse Cloud included. - Cloudflare Tunnels to share a local server with a teammate. - Workflows that chain backups, health checks, exports and SQL into one saved run. - Spotlight and Raycast find tables and saved queries. ## Databases PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server, ClickHouse, CockroachDB and Cloudflare D1, connected directly, over an SSH tunnel, or through platforms such as Supabase, Neon, PlanetScale and Amazon RDS. The agent tools, health checks and undo work on every engine. ## Pricing - Free trial: 7 days, every feature, no credit card, no account. - Lifetime: $49 once. Every feature and engine, unlimited connections, free updates for life, one Mac per license (a license can be moved to a new Mac). - Team: packs of 5 to 50 Lifetime seats, paid once, priced per seat by size: $44 a seat for 5–9, $40 for 10–24, $36 for 25–50. Each teammate gets their own license key. - Student and indie developer discounts by email. ## Pages - [Home](https://tablestudio.sh/): what TableStudio and the agent plugin do, the safety rules, features and FAQ - [Pricing](https://tablestudio.sh/pricing): plans, the team seat calculator and pricing FAQ - [Changelog](https://tablestudio.sh/changelog): release notes, newest first - [Roadmap](https://tablestudio.sh/roadmap): feature requests and their status - [Download](https://tablestudio.sh/download): the latest macOS build (.dmg) - [Plugin source](https://github.com/tablestudioapp/plugins): the agent plugin on GitHub ## Optional - [Terms](https://tablestudio.sh/legal/terms) - [Privacy](https://tablestudio.sh/legal/privacy) - [Refunds](https://tablestudio.sh/legal/refunds) - [Email](mailto:hello@tablestudio.sh): hello@tablestudio.sh - [X](https://x.com/tablestudioapp)
