Privacy Policy
Last updated
TableStudio ("we", "us") makes the TableStudio app for macOS (the "App") and runs tablestudio.sh. This policy explains what personal data we handle and why.
The short version: you don't need an account. The App contains no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. Your databases, queries and results stay on your Mac. They only leave it to go straight to services that you choose to connect, and never through our servers.
What we collect
When you buy a license
Purchases are handled by Polar, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Polar collects your name, email address, billing country or address and payment details. We receive your name, email address and order details from Polar. We never see your full card details. Polar's handling of your data is covered by the Polar Privacy Policy.
We use this information to deliver and manage your license, provide support, and meet tax and accounting obligations.
When you activate your license
When you activate the App, and periodically afterwards to check that the license is still valid, the App sends the following to Polar's licensing service:
- your license key;
- an activation ID;
- your Mac's computer name, used as the device label so you can tell your activations apart.
Like any network request, it also reveals your IP address. A failed check never removes a paid license.
The 14-day trial is tracked only on your Mac. Starting a trial sends nothing to us.
When the App checks for updates
The App checks updates.tablestudio.sh for new versions and downloads them from it. Like any web request, these requests reveal your IP address, App version and macOS version. The update server is hosted by Cloudflare. We don't use these requests to build a profile of you.
When you email us
If you contact support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to answer you.
When you visit the website
tablestudio.sh is hosted by Cloudflare, which may process your IP address and browser details to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The website uses no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. Your light or dark theme preference is stored in your own browser.
What stays on your Mac
These are stored locally and never sent to us:
- connection details and credentials, with passwords stored in the macOS Keychain;
- your database contents, query results, query history and drafts;
- dashboards, workflows, snippets, the audit log, AI chat history and settings;
- backups, unless you choose to upload them to your own storage;
- local database servers and sandboxes the App creates for you.
The App can add your connections, tables and saved queries to Spotlight and serve them to Raycast. Both stay on your Mac.
iCloud sync
iCloud sync is on by default. It syncs your connections, query history, dashboard widgets, workflows, snippets and AI settings between your devices using Apple's CloudKit, in the private database of your own iCloud account. We can't access it. Passwords and API keys are stored in CloudKit's encrypted fields. You can turn sync off in Settings, globally or for individual connections. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
Services you choose to connect
Some features send data directly from your Mac to a third party, but only when you set them up and use them. That data never passes through us. Each service handles it under its own terms and privacy policy.
- Your databases. Including through SSH tunnels you configure, and hosted platforms such as Supabase, Neon, PlanetScale, Cloudflare D1 and ClickHouse.
- AI providers. When you use an AI feature, the App sends your request to the provider you configured, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, GitHub Copilot or a custom endpoint. The request can include your prompt, relevant parts of your database schema, the SQL involved, and any query results the feature needs. If you choose the on-device model, AI requests stay on your Mac.
- AI tools using the local MCP server. The App's MCP server only listens on your Mac, at 127.0.0.1. AI tools you connect to it, such as Cursor or Claude, can read your data and may send it to their own providers under their own policies.
- Vendor accounts. Supabase, Neon or PlanetScale accounts you link through their MCP services.
- Storage and sharing. S3-compatible storage you upload backups to, and Cloudflare Tunnels you use to share a local database.
How we share data
We don't sell your personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. We share it only:
- with service providers that help us run TableStudio: Polar (payments and licensing), Cloudflare (website and update hosting) and our email provider;
- when the law requires it, or when it's needed to protect our rights or prevent fraud.
These providers may process data outside your country. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
Legal bases
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process your data:
- to perform our contract with you: delivering and validating your license, and providing support;
- for our legitimate interests: delivering updates, securing our services, and preventing license abuse;
- to meet legal obligations, such as tax and accounting records.
How long we keep it
We keep purchase and license records for as long as your license is active and as long as tax and accounting law requires. We keep support emails for as long as we need them to help you. Polar keeps its own records under its own policy.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict how we process it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. Data stored only on your Mac or in your iCloud account is already under your control, and you can delete it at any time.
Children
TableStudio isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll make reasonable efforts to tell you, for example in the App or on this website.
